Hackney on Ice invites ice hockey teams to adopt a local primary school for one season and help inspire the next generation of players.
This is a light-touch, scalable community engagement model designed to connect live matchday experience with grassroots pathway development.
What is Adopt a School?
One team partners with one local primary school for a season and allocates a small number of complimentary tickets for selected home games.
The school then uses these tickets as structured rewards linked to:
• Attendance improvement
• Positive behaviour
• Academic progress
• Demonstrating teamwork and school values.
Children may attend as a supervised group or with a parent, subject to school preference.
Where possible, the experience includes a short post-game photo opportunity and meet-and-greet with players, followed by clear signposting into Play & Learn and junior development pathways from Club/HoI via School.
Why get involved?
Adopt a School is not a charity. It is pathway building.
For clubs, this initiative can:
• Increase visibility within local schools
• Bring new families into the rink environment
• Strengthen community presence and reputation
• Create a clearer pipeline into junior programmes
• Support community engagement and funding reporting
• Build long-term participation and future audiences.
For schools and children, it provides:
• Aspirational live sport experience
• Motivation linked to academic progress
• Exposure to positive role models
• Clear pathway into accessible beginner hockey.
How does it work?
• One team adopts one school for one season
• Matchday tickets allocated across 3–4 selected home games (number of tickets is decided by the club).
• Schools manage ticket allocation as structured rewards
• Hackney on Ice supports pathway signposting and coordination.
The model can rotate to a new school as and when it is convenient for the club.
Who can register?
• Clubs at any level
